At the 104th plenary meeting of the Central European Brewing Analysis Commission (MEBAK) on April 4, 2025, Dr. Roman Beneš was unanimously elected as a full member.
Dr. Roman Beneš studied electrical engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague and completed his doctorate in physics at Charles University in Prague. His dissertation dealt with the photoacoustics and infrared spectroscopy of semiconductors.
Since 1992 he has been working in Graz, first at Joanneum Research and later at Anton Paar. Dr. Roman Beneš researched and developed optical and in particular spectroscopic measurement methods and sensors for the non-destructive analysis of beverages. He designed and developed the ALCOLYZER measuring device, which is based on near-infrared spectroscopy for measuring alcohol in alcoholic beverages. This measuring method was patented and he is the main inventor.
Dr. Roman Beneš was also involved in the development of infrared sensors for CO2 measurement in beverages and contributed to the investigation of statistical calibration methods for spectroscopic measuring devices.
Since 2022, he has been working part-time at the Research Institute of Brewing and Malting in Prague, where he studies the optical degradation of beer and develops new measurement methods to determine it.
The MEBAK expert group is pleased to welcome Dr. Roman Beneš.
