This method describes how to calculate the magnesium ion content of water.
Water intended for use as an ingredient in the production of beer (brewing liquor) or other foods
Magnesium ions (like calcium ions) are present in all natural waters and are among the minerals that create hardness in water. Their concentration generally does not exceed that of calcium ions. A high magnesium concentration is not favorable in brewing liquor, particularly if it surpasses the calcium content.
Magnesium ions are calculated by subtracting concentration of calcium ions (W-000.17.031 - Calcium in Wasser, Komplexometrische Bestimmung mit EDTA) from the total hardness (W-000.11.031 - Gesamthärte in Wasser).
